Jake heard Anne's words as if from a great distance. In all the excitement he'd entirely forgotten about his sister. His own sister. He was going to walk away and leave here there, without even batting an eyelid. What was he thinking? He, who always made her stay close to him. God! He'd even thought, just moment ago, about how he always held her hand. Was "all the excitement" really more important than his family?
He clenched his fists, digging his nails into his palms. How could he have let this happen? How had he let some stupid dream distract him from what was really important? Well that was it. No more of this idiocy, no more delusions of grandeur. He'd sworn not let anyone else hurt his family, and he'd nearly done it himself. Briefly, almost unconsciously, he wondered if Robin Hood ever felt like this, but the thought was shaken before it could take root. Robin Hood didn't matter. It was Emma did.
"I'm sorry," He said hoarsely, turning to Anne "I can't walk you home." And with that he whipped back the way they'd come and disappeared into the crowd
[OOC - Sorry about that, Anni, I'd actually totally forgotten about Emma! I don’t think Jake's the kinda guy who'd abandon her, and trust him to overreact ^^;;]

Anne was confused as he said those things to her and then walked away. She was going to say something in return, but he was gone by then. Anne slowly turned around and began walking in the direction of the gate. Her mum would be angry that she hadn't gotten the few items she had asked for. But it wasn't dire and she could go again the next day. Maybe she would see Jake again in the market place, though she wasn't so sure.
