About your Character
Name: Asher Hardy
Nickname: Ash
Age: 21
Country: England
Position: Sheriff’s Man
Job: Sir Guy’s Man/Guard
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Height: 5” 10’
General Appearance:
Asher is a reasonably tall individual, although thankfully he’s not going to grow more any time soon. He has fairly tanned skin (as do most of the population of Locksley), from years spent toiling in honest trade under the sun and rain, and his hands are calloused to an extreme, from both fieldwork and from swordplay. His hair is overly long, and in constant need of a cut, often getting in his eyes – he’s considering taking it back, tying it up in a ribbon but fears ridicule from his fellow guards. He is a little bit effeminate and has been mistaken for a girl a few times when he was younger, although his height now helps differentiate him from the fairer sex. He also has fairly broad shoulders, which he seems to dislike. Too many people have tried to leap-frog over him because of them.
He has fairly good posture and likes to keep it that way, so he can impress his master. He hasn’t developed much muscle, being wiry and using speed to his advantage rather than strength. He is often employed more as a messenger around the castle or village than as a soldier.

Personality:
Asher is a very loyal person, so when he pledges his allegiance to someone, it’s hard to sway him. He might be called single minded, but it’s merely a desire to see what he thinks is right being done to perfection. It also means it takes some time for him to truly pledge himself to a cause, because he wants to be sure he’s going in for the right thing. So far, he hasn’t found a reason to be ashamed of the path he has chosen, and he hopes that things will continue this way. He trusts Guy as a harsh but fair master, and occasionally uses the man’s actions to dictate his own.
When Asher has a feeling regarding anything, it tends to be passionate. He’s never had a half-mind on something, never believed something only a little – if he believed the country needed saving, he’d feel the need to save it burning through his veins. If he felt he loved someone, then it would be a fiery love. Such passionate feelings often make him blind to the reality of a situation and as such he’s going to find out just how dangerous that can be soon. It could be due to such a passionate personality that he finds himself often short-tempered, and in arguments he’s more likely to resort to fisticuffs than a proper debate about who is right and why. His beliefs are firm and true, and that’s that, as far as he’s concerned. He also gets jealous easily of people who are better off than him or his pseudo-family.
Around people he knows, Asher seems like a fair and kind bloke, but he doesn’t like to make too many friends outside of the guards and his childhood ones as he doesn’t know who to trust anymore. He hears so many conflicting stories from different sources, so he tends to rely on his instinct. He’d give up his meal for a kid in the street, but he’s just as soon to ignore the older members of the poor population, thinking they ought to work themselves out of poverty (his father was a strict taskmaster on their small farm). Much of his attitude has been affected by working for Gisborne.
Asher has a natural charisma, which he is more than happy to use to obtain information from passers-by or to charm a fair maiden into his bed. This isn’t to say he can’t be romantic – he’s fairly happy to court a young lady, if he thinks she’s worth it, but he’s also happy for a fling. He’s just a regular bloke, really. His position as Sir Guy’s man has led to many of the Locksley villagers to start disliking him, but he’s trying to charm them back round to both him and their new lord.
Family:
Background:
Asher was born to Eric and Amelia Hardy in the quiet village of Locksley, although his mother died soon after his birth from infection. His father struggled on as best he could, unwilling to remarry as he had truly loved Amelia, and it’s probably for this reason that Asher’s temperament isn’t as good as it could be. His father was a passionate man and he picked it up from him.
As soon as he could walk, Asher was out and helping his father with the farming, usually by weeding until he was old enough to wield a spade and pitchfork. He did naturally spend time playing with the other children in the village, and this was how he met his best friend, John Barns Jr. They got into a lot of mischief when they were little, a lot of the time winding up John’s sister, Rose, and he’d been punished for their escapades many times. It was John’s fault that he got the scar on his arm, where he broke his arm as he startled a horse they were going to try and ride. The bone jutted out of the skin, and while it healed fine in the end, he still has the mark of the event and remains scared of horses.
He often believed he’d follow John to the ends of the world, for the rest of their lives, but when the time came for young, strong men to be called to the Holy Land in order to fight for King and country, Eric had become old and frail. Years of heartbreak had robbed him of his strength and ability to work, and so Asher was faced with a choice – follow his best friend to almost certain death and leave his father to fade to nothing, or stay at home (much against his heart’s desire) and ensure his father was able to survive for at least a few more years. It was a sad day when he said goodbye to John, and he was never sure if he would see the young man again.
His father died shortly after this, and now Asher was the sole farmer of the land his family had for so long lived on. At the age of 19, he decided he had nothing to live for except his old family friends, the Barnses. When John Barns Sr died, it finally made Asher’s mind up – he was not going to earn enough money to support the slowly breaking family as well as himself, so he sold the land to another family for a reasonable price and sought employ in their temporary lord’s guard, Gisborne. He found himself fairly at home amongst the ranks and was a good soldier, although now many of his fellow villagers despised Gisborne and his people. The lord and his guards have taught Asher to fight well, although they’re still struggling to get him near a horse to learn to ride by himself. He has been working his way back into the hearts of the villagers, having kept the cheeky charm he so often used to get out of trouble with the people, and hasn’t changed allegiance since Robin’s return from the Holy Land. All the hearsay about both sides of the argument, about who he should support, confuses Asher and he struggles to decide whom he should truly swear his allegiance – King Richard or Prince John. For now, he fights for his pseudo-family and his master, Gisborne, remaining oblivious to the identity of the Red Hawk, against whom he has sworn a personal vendetta.
Asher is fairly good at swordplay, although no where near the realms of his lord or the people he’s supposed to be fighting, and aside from farming he has no skills of value.
Anything else:Would it be possible to change his name, because I will likely get very confused… I was thinking Asher? Thanks!
