About your Character
Name: William Scarlett.
Nickname: Will.
Age: Twenty.
Country: England.
Position: Outlaw.
Job: Carpenter.
Eye Color: Sea grey.
Hair Color: Dark brown.
Height: 6”2.
General Appearance:
A tall, slender and stooping man, Will does not present himself with deliberate care or grace. He is an outlaw born of the village and not the manor. Dark hair often untidy if only to shadow subtly large ears, Will trims only the thin moustache he has grown whilst gallivanting about the forest. His clothes are often worn and creased, rarely washed or darned his trousers fray at the hems whilst his shirt gathers stains from the kitchen. Dirt is not washed from his large and filthy hands, the bruises and cuts from whittling forever colouring his skin.
Will has quite strong and slumping shoulders, muscular from many years felling trees in Sherwood Forest though ill-postured from toiling over carpenter’s tasks. Though agile when wielding his axe, Will often becomes entangled in tree roots or brambles when scarpering about the forest. His large, booted feet are easily caught in holes or nooks, presenting the battle-lithe carpenter as a clumsy fellow. Though Will is wizened by years passed, he often exerts the behaviours common in his youth. Defiantly folded arms, childishly tilted chins and angrily tossed utensils exhibit the faults still lingering in his youth.
Likes:
+ Robin Hood and the outlaws.
+ His brother, Luke.
+ Djaq.
+ Helping the poor and the ill.
+ Carving, lopping and whittling wood.
+ Young children.
Dislikes:
- Sheriff Vaysey and his tyrannous regime.
- Sir Guy of Gisborne.
- Taxes.
- Accusations.
- Disloyalty and betrayal.
- Being treated like a child.
Personality:
A master of wood, Will is a quiet and introverted man motivated by the past.
Will is quiet and withdrawn, often found delighting in the solace of Sherwood. His thoughts and musings are his own, not readily offered to even his warmest of companions. He is only vocal when conversation regards the oppressed of Nottingham, empathetically compelled to acquire assistance for their plight. Will despises betrayal and treachery, obliged to remain loyal to Robin since his rescue from the gallows. He cannot fathom the incentive for deceit and is never entirely forgiving of those to commit such heinous deeds.
Will behaves as the moral conscious of the outlaws, his experience as an oppressed peasant of Locksley motivating the fulfilment of their pledge to Nottingham. He often nominates campaigns to benefit the poor and does not tire until his strategies are undertaken. However, his overwhelming passion often motivates the irrational behaviour common of an adolescent. When grieving or angered, he becomes unreasonable and cannot be dissuaded from illogical pursuits.
Family:
Jane Scarlett – Deceased.
Daniel Scarlett – Deceased.
Luke Scarlett – Resides in Nottinghamshire.
Background:
Will was born as the elder brother of Luke to Jane and Daniel Scarlett of Locksley, Nottinghamshire. He laboured as an apprentice to his father, a carpenter of the shire, and was taught the difficult mastery of wood. His mother passed away whilst starving to afford the taxes imposed upon her family. Will began to thieve from Sherwood Forest, intending to provide his family with worthy meats. He deliberately disobeyed the Sheriff’s forbidding decree, loathing Vaysey for the grief he had imposed upon the Scarlett family. Will and Luke were one day caught by the Locksley guard, their father having a hand removed to reprieve his sons from punishment.
Luke and Daniel became more reliant upon Will from then on, neither properly performing a trade. Will tirelessly toiled for his family, intending to keep them from further grief. However, many others in Nottingham were suffering beneath the Sheriff and could not afford the labours Will offered. The young man began thieving once more so the funds he earned could afford the monthly taxes. Liberation was expected upon Robin of Locksley’s return from the Holy Land. Reclaiming his title, Robin sought to revive the village that had been so firmly oppressed by Guy of Gisborne. That time of vibrant hope fatefully saw the capture of Will and Luke thieving from a Locksley barn.
Will and Luke were to be hanged for thieving flour from a Locksley barn, but were rescued from their fate by the valiant Robin Hood. Whilst Luke and Dan left for Scarborough, Will united with Hood as an outlaw of Sherwood Forest. He became a champion of the poor and the oppressed, striving to liberate those beneath the tyrannous regime of Sheriff Vaysey. Will was petitioned to return to Scarborough by his father months later, though he denied the requests. His father was murdered by the Sheriff in Nottingham town, Will motivated by his father’s death to remain an outlaw of Sherwood.
Will has fallen quite in love with Saracen outlaw, Djaq, and is delighting in the return of redeemed friend, Allan A Dale, and struggling to dismiss lingering doubt of the gambler.
