About your Character
Name: Guy (of Gisborne)
Nickname: None that he’ll admit to.
Age: –cough- 32 –cough-
Country: England
Position:Sheriff’s Dogsbody
Job: See above
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Height: 6’2”
General Appearance: Tall, dark and intimidating. What more could a girl want?! Guy is what you’d call a typical rogue, but not quite to the same degree as Robin. He likes to wear his hair in a messy unkempt way, but at the same time making it look like he has made just a little bit of effort. Rarely cleanshaven, he opts for what could only be described as a rugged rough-around-the edges type style, accentuated only by his constant need to wear leather.
Often attired in black, Guy has an imposing presence that has to be seen to believe, but once you get past the ‘I might kill you’ façade, you come to appreciate that he is actually a pretty good looking gentleman. It’s rare to see him without a weapon of some description, and lately his plaything of choice has been a broadsword acquired in the holy land. But it’s not all down to the accessories, it’s down to the way he carries himself. Head held high, Guy uses his height to his advantage and blessed with ungodly muscle definition, he’s not the type of guy you’d want to run into on a dark night!
His clothing, is mainly practical over style, and the fact leather is a bit of a pain to move in at first, doesn’t even seem to phase him. It’s lighter than armour and as such will suffice for his jaunts into the unknown. At times he can be seen wearing his family crest on a variety of jewellery items, but more often than not he’s just the man in black, almost like an executioner, trying to fit in with normal society.
Likes:
Showing up Robin.
Marian.
Quiet days in which he doesn’t have to be the ‘bad one’
Swordfighting
Horse riding
Dislikes:
Outlaws in all shapes and forms
The King.
Having to prove his loyalties
Mice.
Marian (when she’s stubborn!)
Personality: Intimidate much? Guy is and always will be, a very complicated individual. He’s often perceived as a dictator of sorts, and it’s a reputation he’s quite proud of. People don’t attack in fear, and as such as less likely to question the Sheriff’s authority over trivial matters. Once upon a time, he may have had a slightly more defined moral code, but the older he’s become, the more he’s realised that sometimes there has to be a bad guy running around. He doesn’t particularly like killing people or being responsible for prolonged suffering, and has often shown remorse on such occasions, but the overwhelming belief that sacrifices must be made, is what usually clouds his mind.
So what about the real Guy then? The man beneath the copious layers of leather is in fact quite nice! It may be surprising to hear, but he’s capable of compassion, understanding and even love. So far he’s living with a balance between the two of roughly around 90/10 in favour of his more domineering side. This means that despite caring, he still is known to be a complete and utter git. Often using a wry combination of sarcasm and vindictive wit, Guy tries distinctly hard to cover his emotions as he feels that they are a weakness.
Brash and blunt, are two words that could best describe this servant of Nottingham, along with a quick temper and uncontrollable desire to kill Robin of Locksley. He is methodical in his plans however, and while he would happily go in and settle matters with a blade, her prefers to orchestrate his plans before diving straight in. So all in all, he’s simply misunderstood, a little sadistic, but misunderstood all the same.
Family: N/A
Background: A dark, brooding man always clad in black leather, Guy is the Sheriff's second-in-command, and manages the Locksley estate in Robin's absence. He is reluctant to relinquish control over it and claims it as his own when Robin is outlawed. His eagerness for land of his own, comes from bitterness over having no actual Gisborne estate of his own, despite his title. Guy fathered a child with a servant girl, Annie, and later abandons him in the forest, only for the baby to be found and rescued by Robin and his men.
As in other tellings of the Hood legends, he is a suitor of Marian, but she does not return his affections. In episode seven, he forces her into an engagement with him. It is later revealed that Guy was the masked assassin that Robin was wounded by in the Holy Land as he tried to prevent him from killing King Richard. Robin slashed his tattoo with a sword during the fray, and Robin realises that it was Guy when he sees his tattoo with an identical scar through it. Robin kidnaps and tortures Guy after he finds out, and attempts to reveal Guy's treachery to the public with proof, but so far has been unsuccessful.
Just before their wedding is due to go ahead, Marian disguises herself as the Nightwatchman and attempts to steal a chest of money from Guy, which she describes as "A final fling to make me more comfortable in my marriage." to her father, Edward. Unaware that it is his fiancée, Guy stabs her in the stomach. After being cared for by Robin and Djaq, she recovers for the wedding, but decides not to marry Guy at the last minute.
You could say this injured his pride, but that would certainly be an understatement. Gisborne lost a small portion of his humanity that day, one that would most likely never truly return. He threw himself into a sadistic game of cat and mouse, until finally, his own unrequited love became too unbearable and he once again began his efforts to woo the Lady Marian. Of course his efforts were to no avail, but somewhere inside, he had convinced himself that she would eventually submit.
The façade of decency continued after her father’s death right up until the plot to kill King Richard went into full swing. He had his doubts of course, but ultimately his desire for glory outweighed his love for Marian. He even attempted to stab her, though was foiled by Robin, thus beginning a long and rather bloody brawl in the streets of Acre.
Eventually Robin, having won tired from the fight, returned to England. Guy could’ve opted to stay within the Holy Land, but instead chose to also return through means to exact his vengeance upon the quiver brat. He’s now committed more than ever to foiling the outlaws plans, but somewhere deep down, he can’t help but wonder, if the torch for a certain Maid is still burning within his chest.
Anything else: Combat is by far Guy’s most useful asset, as he is skilled in both the use of a blade and a bow. Often opting to utilise these skills as opposed to working on less violent means of persuasion he’s developed a bit of a reputation when it comes to striking fear in the hearts of peasants everywhere. He isn’t an entirely uneducated fellow though, even if he does choose to take the hands on route wherever possible, and he is capable of reading and writing, along with a few dubious comments in various languages.
