About your Character
Name: Andrew Farmer
Nickname: Andy, Rake
Age: 32
Country: England
Position:(Outlaw, King's man, Sheriff's man, etc…) Peasant
Job: Farmer
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Brown
Height: 6’ 0”
General Appearance:(Minimum of two paragraphs, please)Andy is a tall, slightly built man with long, gangly arms and draping legs. He often slouches, due to many years of tilling lands and raising decent crops for his lords and masters. His hair is kept short and out of the way, flecking with grey as he gets older, and his eyes are often tired and heavy. His clothes are quite typical - dull browns, frayed round the edges because he cannot afford new ones any time soon if he wishes to feed his family.
He has a deeply wrinkled face and a scratchy beard, never seeming to quite be able to grow a full one about him, and more often than not these creases are set from concentration rather than worry or grief. He has a slow, careful approach to life which is reflected in his walk, and he often seems lost in his own mind to the unsuspecting eye.
Likes:
O Farming
O His family
O A good gamble (usually with stones)
O His ale
O Thinking
Dislikes:
O Busybodies
O Outlaws and nobles alike
O Having a bad crop
O Disappointing his family
Personality:(Minimum of two paragraphs, please)
Andrew is a simple (though not simple minded) and thoughtful man. He has strong opinions and beliefs, and will tell anyone he feels he can trust exactly what is on his mind. He isn’t stupid enough, however, to think the Sheriff or his men would be pleased to hear what he has to say, and so keeps his trap shut. He’s seen how the Sheriff deals with “traitors to the crown”. In this sense, he is quite a coward. But he likes being alive and able to breath, thank you very much.
Andrew has a very low opinion of both the outlaws and the nobles. Even when Edward was in power, Andrew would ask his friends; what has he ever done for me? The outlaws occasionally drop food by his door, but thanks to “owning” a farm he’s generally considered less needy than other villagers and so often is left out of the collection. The outlaws can’t help everyone, after all. He also feels the outlaws do more damage than good, encouraging rebellion and sending young men to their deaths for a King who has deserted them and a country that does not care (as far as Andrew can tell). He doesn’t have flights of fancy, which is what he feels the outlaws are constantly acting under; he’s very practical about life. He thinks about which crops would be best to grow where, how much money he owes his lord, that sort of thing, rather than how can he go about bringing an end to the Sheriff’s reign of terror.
He’s a very cynical man, and enjoys a strange sense of humour most others cannot understand. He loves irony and takes pleasure in speaking sarcastically to most people. It’s a sign of affection, really - if he didn’t like you, he simply wouldn’t speak to you.
Andrew cares about his family a great deal more than anything else, though he is rather fond of his ale. He isn’t keen on strangers.
Family:
O Amelia Farmer (first wife, deceased)
O Georgina Farmer (second wife, living, 32)
O Andrew Farmer Jr (son from his first wife, 20 - he‘s usually referred to as Drew)
O Liam Farmer (son from his first wife, 19)
O Craig Farmer (son from his second wife, 15)
O Patrick Farmer (son from second wife, 11)
O Amy Farmer (daughter from second wife, 8)
O Mary Farmer (daughter from second wife, 2).
Background:(Minimum of two paragraphs, please)
Andrew was born and raised in Knighton, and his family have always farmed the same bit of land for as long as anyone can remember. He was the eldest of seven sons and four daughters, his father and mother being rather productive (as he himself was later in life). He shouldered much of the responsibility of his family when he was old enough (at about the age of eleven, and partly as his father died) and often acted as a surrogate father to his siblings. As a result, he wasted most of his childhood and is quite harsh on his own children when he thinks they’re acting particularly silly.
When Andrew was 17, he fell in love with the beautiful Amelia Tanner, nearly twenty years his senior, and three months after meeting her, they were wed and with child. By the time he was 18, his first son (naturally named after his strong father) was born and he was the proudest dad in the village, if not the shire. He had taken over a small segment of his family’s land and worked it for his own small dwelling, although they continued to live with his mother and siblings. After the birth of his second son (which cost Amelia her life), his siblings were moving on themselves, and by the time he was 23, remarried to the lovely Georgina and following the heels of Craig‘s birth, his mother died of a stroke (but believed to be caused by a demon). He spent the next few years in a similar state of monotony - now caring once more for the whole patch as it was just him and his family. Georgina and Andrew continued to reproduce until Mary’s birth seemed to have rendered Georgina unable to carry child anymore (and they have tried). Andrew doesn’t mind, though; he has a large and loving family as it is, and he is content.
At the moment, Andrew spends much of his time teaching his older sons, Drew, Liam and Craig, the finer points of farming, is starting to teach Patrick the art of tilling soil, and tends to spoil his little girls as often as possible. He’s doing alright. Nothing extraordinary has happened to him in his life. He does often nag Andrew and Liam for not being married and still being at home.
Anything else: I’ve tried to be as historically accurate as my knowledge permits; any corrections would be met with thanks. If anyone would ever like to take his children or wife and bring them to life, I’d also be grateful - I’d like to see how people take on the roles. I don’t think they will want to, though. Oh well. Also - *waves briefly at Alsa* Shouldn't have told me about it. : )
