Sunrise, Sunset.
This night she had watched the sun set and then rise again. Eve hadn't been able to sleep, she was so sick with worry that she hadn't been herself at all lately, even her secret rendezvous with Much hadn't put her at ease. She hadn't even bothered to do up her hair by braiding it or pulling it back. Eve had simply brushed it for a hour or so, just staring at herself in the mirror and thinking - about everything. About what Much had said, about her current situation, about Robin and the whole cause he fought for. It all seemed so much bigger than her - it was almost too hard to believe she had become a part of it, and in such a way.
As she had gone about her mindless task of brushing, she had totally forgotten to do anything fancy, and stuck to borrowing one of Card's caps. As she sat perched up in the lowest branch of a large tree, her long blonde hair fell about her shoulders, a cap pulled over her head in a very Much-esque fashion. Perhaps he had been her inspiration when she had taken it. Why not, right?
Her blue eyes were focused on the ever brightening horizon, how long had she been sitting there? Shaking her head as if to wake herself up a bit (Even though sleep was not one of the things she had accomplished that night) she blinked a few times, and glanced down at the forest floor to see a fox stalking through the underbrush. Beautiful things foxes were. Sneaky and Bold - but rather twitchy, if you asked Eve. But she couldn't blame them, not one bit. Shifting a bit on the branch, she made too much noise - and the creature was gone in a heart beat. Well, one says it is lucky to see a fox. Perhaps that was true - only time would tell. Looking down at her attire she was slightly surprised by it, she had almost completely forgotten she had stolen the boy next doors clothes. It was sad that she could fit into a twelve year old boys tunic and leggings - or was he thirteen? Eve could remember - but, like the cap, it had struck her fancy, and so she borrowed it.
The sky was now a pretty shade of orange and quickly changing into an ever ligheter yellow as she watched. Eve found herself slightly contented, and sang gently to herself, "And all shall fade
The flowers of spring
The world and all the sorrow
At the heart of everything
But still it stays
The butterflies sings
And opens purple summer
With the flutter of its wings
The Earth will wave with corn
The gray-fly choir will mourn
And mares will neigh with
Stallions that they mate, foals they've borne
And all shall know the wonder of purple summer."
Just as she was about to start the second verse, she heard it - foot steps.
Who would be out and about in the forest at this hour?
Robin's gang - that's who. But which of that gang would it be? Eve found herself secretly hoping for Much, but what were the chances? Glancing back and leaning over she caught sight of a man, and smiled.
What a pleasant surprise.
