Walking up to the door of the Miller home, Jon shifted the parcel under his arm. His mother had been collecting for the past three years all the old clothes which were either too small or ripped to shreds. Most of them were Jon's. He'd grown a lot since the age of fifteen, until then he'd been a bit of a pipsqueak - not that he was particularly tall for a guy now anyway. Plus, in his line of work his clothes were always a casulty. If he wasn't accientally cutting the fabric on various tools, he was purposefully mangling his clothes as makeshift buffing cloths. They worked fairly well in his defence.
But it always annoyed his ma, and payback was leaving getting them fixed or merged together until he'd near enough run out of clothes. And Jon was living off the last few items he posessed. It was fair embarressing. So that was why he was headed to the Miller's home, because he ordinarily wouldn't go. Yeah, Kate was pretty - but he pa was pretty scary. And he wasn't too sure what she'd make of him if she knew of Jon's new alligence with Lord Mannering.
Kate had made her opinions on their new Lord rather clear, but whether she knew about Jon being his little carpenter... That was anyone's guess. He hoped she didn't find out until after this clothes affair was done with. Not that he cared what Kate thought of him - he couldn't care less, she was just another girl who happened to be quite pretty - he cared about his state of dressedness. Jon was not one for living the way nature intended. It was too cold for that.
When he got to the door, Jon couldn't help but pause in hesitation. He brought his hand up to knock, but couldn't quite pound his hand on the door just yet. He had no idea why. Guilty conscience? No chance. Scared of Kate's pa? Maybe. Scared of Kate's possible reaction to seeing him? Yes, very much so. She was a strong girl with her opinions and such - Jon could beat her up no trouble, not that he would without provokation - and it could be fair scary seeing her livid. Now that he could be guilty of - being sared of a girl.
Taking a breath, Jon thought of relaxing thoughts. Oddly enough, Penny came to mind. The sweet kitchen maid from the castle who brought him food when he was remodelling the prison. Oo, not a good thought... Just mentioning the prison made him feel all tense again, which would be odd. Knocking on the door, acting all shifty - it would only put ideas in Kate's head. Taking another breath, Jon bit the bullet and knocked. No answer.
He was feeling impatient, and possibly should have waited a little longer before he yelled into the house. But Jon was only ever patient when he knew there was a reward, and this time his patience was going to be spent on waiting a week or so for his clothes. "Kate? Kate you home?" He felt like such a nonce, and he would even more so if she wasn't home.
(ooc: hope this is ok!)
